Q1. What are the different workshops offered in the Open Elective 2021?

A. Based on the overarching theme of NORMATIVE FUTURES, this year, we are offering 35 workshops for you to choose and register from. All these workshops will be conducted in online mode. The details of the workshops offered will be available for viewing and download on the Open Elective website from Monday, Mar 15, 2021. These details include the overview, objectives, methodology, and faculty profile for each workshop.

Q2. Which students are eligible for the Open Elective?

A. The Open Electives are offered to NID’s B.Des Semester 4 (2019 batch) and M.Des Semester 2 (2020 batch) students of all disciplines

Q3. Can a student choose to not attend any of the workshops during the Open Electives?

A. No. As a part of NID’s curriculum, the Open Elective is like any other course in the timetable and participation is compulsory & credited for the above mentioned batches of NID students.

Q4. How different is this Open Elective from other courses?

A.In terms of academics, it is very much like other courses. The workshops under Open Elective carry 4.0 credits. Attendance is important and submissions and evaluations will be done as per the norms. The only difference is that your fellow students in a workshop will be a mix of students from various disciplines and of both B.Des. & M.Des. programmes. This course shall culminate with an online compilation, or display for the community.

Q5. What are the prerequisites for registration?

A. Bonafide students of NID should have a valid student ID/ No. and a functional NID e-mail ID on nid.edu. If you don’t have a working mail ID, please contact IT and get it activated as soon as possible. A Username and Password for registering on the Open Elective website shall be emailed to each student after the signup process is done.

Q9. How many students can register for a particular workshop?

A. The maximum number of seats available for each workshop is 15. Seats tend to get filled up rather quickly, so please go through the details of workshops in advance, and have your choices /priorities ready before the registration commences. It is recommended that you keep at least 2 to 3 choices of preference ready before you begin the registration process, in case your first choice gets filled up before you are able to register for it.

Q10. Can a student re-register for another workshop?

A. All workshops have a minimum requirement of 10 registered students for it to be conducted as a part of the Open Elective. In case a specific workshop does not attract the minimum number of students, it will not be offered. If such a situation arises, the students who had opted for the (cancelled) workshop, will have to re-register from the available workshops at the time of the 2nd registration on Friday, March 19, 2021 between 2 to 11.45 PM. Such students will be informed by email, after the first round of registration is over.

The workshop is also subject to cancellation in case the workshop instructor is unavailable due to any unavoidable circumstances. In that case, the Open Elective team will allot an alternative workshop to the affected students.
