Q. What are the different workshops offered in the Open Elective 2018?

A. Based on the overarching theme of HERITAGE, this year, we are offering around 30 workshops across all the three campuses for you to choose and register from. On the Open Electives website the details of workshops offered are available for download. These details include the overview, objectives, methodology and faculty profile for each workshop.

Q. Which students are eligible for the Open Elective?

A. The International Open Electives are offered only to the following students:

  • Students of NID studying in 4th Semester B.Des of all disciplines (2016 batch).
  • Students of NID studying in 2nd Semester M.Des of all disciplines (2017 batch)
  • Exchange students from MoU partner institutions.

Q. Can students opt for a workshop in a campus other than their own?

A. Yes. The students are free to choose any workshops.
However, the students who opt for workshops on another campus will have to make arrangements for travel and accommodation on their own. There will no reimbursement made by institute toward the travel and accommodation under taken by student to attend the OpenElective workshop. Also, please note that the venue of the workshops mentioned in the workshop details is indicative and is subject to change if circumstances (such as logistics, space availability etc.) so demand. In such cases, the decision of the institute is final and binding, and information would be provided to you.

Q. Can a student choose to not attend any of the workshops during the Open Electives?

A. No. As a part of the current curriculum, the Open Elective is like any other course and participation is compulsory & credited for above mentioned batches of NID students.

Q. How different is this Open Elective from other courses?

A. In terms of academics, it is very much like other courses. The workshops under Open Elective you attend carry 4.0 credits. Attendance is important and submissions and evaluations will be done as per the norms. The only difference is that your fellow students will be a mix of various disciplines and both UG & PG programmes. This course shall culminate with a display for the community.

Q. What are the pre requisites for registration?

A. Bonafide students of NID should have a valid student id and functional e-mail ID on nid.edu. If you don’t have a working mail ID, please contact IT and get it activated as early as possible. Visiting students on exchange from MoU partner institutes do not require an email id on nid.edu. A Username and Password for registering on the Open Elective website shall be emailed to each student after the signup process is done.

These students shall be informed by email, after the first round of registration is over.
